Hi! My name is Simi.

I’m a character designer, illustrator, and teacher who loves fall most of all seasons. So when Amanda invited me to paint the images for her wonderful picture book, I instantly said, “Yes!”

I love this story about the sweet pumpkin, the scary bullies, and the little girl hero. It shows that there is bravery in being kind, and that an act of compassion can shine brighter than all schemes of evil! As I painted evening skies and pumpkin candles, I was inspired by the words of Jesus: “In the darkness, let your light shine!” (Matthew 5:16)

No matter what your beliefs are, I hope this picture book will be a scary-fun thrill, but also a warm and cozy reading time for you. May it encourage you to shine love to others, even on dark Halloween nights.
